Sharpening anxiety?
Not quite sure what you're doing?
Would you benefit from a personal lesson?
Well here is next best thing!
I've written about sharpening carving gouges all over the place - to the extent that sometimes I feel all that's left is for me to graffitti a wall somewhere!
And I think I've done it well, for example in my book Woodcarving Tools Materials & Equipment.
But better even than the written word has been being able to show students at the bench, supervising them carefully and guiding them through the sharpening process.
And, when I do, it's not unusual for them to say: "I've read about sharpening but there is nothing like seeing it done."
Seeing is believing.

In this DVD you get to see in complete and intimate detail. You participate, as if I am personally giving you a masterclass in my workshop!
How?
Firstly: I take Rob Cosman (a complete beginner at woodcarving) through the whole process of sharpening carving tool.
I work entirely with him; I don't look at the cameras once.
I show him. He copies me.
He makes mistakes. I correct him.
He asks the sort of questions beginners ask. I give him clear explanations and answers.
We start at the beginning and work our way right through to the end - the DVD is 1hr 55mins long!
Secondly: There were 4 cameras filming the whole process. One camera was in the ceiling, focussed closely on the cutting edge of the gouge. You can see every detail very clearly, just as Rob and myself saw it.
So, if sharpening is at all a problem, this is your answer!

Finally: This DVD is not just about 'sharpening'. It's also about how to make your gouge cut at its most efficient. There's a real difference between 'sharp' and 'cutting well'.
Do you understand the difference? You should! It can only benefit your carving.
With this DVD, get to really understand your gouge and how to sharpen it like a professional carver.

By the way: my book Woodcarving Tools Materials & Equipment contains far more information about carving tools than just how to sharpen them - it's a background source of information which you need to absorb as a thorough background to woodcarving. And it is certainly not a case of either book or DVD as alternatives.
