Author's Notes about the Carving.

I first got the idea of the green man carvings when I saw one in a museum in England during a trip there in September 2000.

The face of the Green Man is carved from a separate block of wood to that of the leaves.
The leaves are painted with a light coat of acrylic paint using colors of green and then sprayed a coat of Deft Semi Gloss Wood Finish on both the face and leaves. I mounted what could have been the wall carving on an oak base for displaying on a table.

About the Carver.

I started carving in November of 1998 after retiring from Lockheed Martin Company. I had worked with wood most of my life but only then thought to try carving.

I took my first class at my local woodworker's store (a Sorcerer-topped, aspen walking stick) and I take classes every time that I find someone who is teaching something that I am not familiar with.
Since I am not carving to earn a living, I can enjoy carving whatever interests me and I get great pleasure from constantly doing one-of-a-kind carvings.

Would you like to contribute an interesting, contemporary, Green Man (gargoyles, grotesque etc) woodcarving?
Or have you a friend you could encourage to have their work shown?
Yes? Then I'd love to here from you!

Write to me, telling me a little about it first.
Thanks!
