Chris Pye: Woodcarving

Author's Notes about the Carving.

I carved this Green Man a few months ago for a local Art Co-op's members' auction.
I have titled it "Oak" although it is carved from a piece of Sugar Pine. It was a challenge to myself to carve something on such a thin piece of wood. I like the juxtaposition of the piece being named "Oak" and symbolizing strength and hardness carved from such a weak and soft wood as Sugar Pine.

About the Carver.

I started carving profesionally in 1989, but have carved, scuplted, painted and stayed art-oriented since grade school.
Besides my wood sculpture, I also make fine furniture, collect and season my wood and enjoy green wood working, collecting anique tools and chair making.

I recently started teaching wood carving locally.

Would you like to contribute an interesting, contemporary, Green Man (gargoyles, grotesque etc) woodcarving?
Or have you a friend you could encourage to have their work shown?
Yes? Then I'd love to here from you!

Write to me, telling me a little about it first.
Thanks!
