You need to email me if you are interested, to find out current availability of places, and to book.

Book early: because of the small class sizes and the quality of the teaching, places are taken quickly.

What sorts of classes are these?
There are two types of classes:

  1. 'general' or 'open classes': geared to what you need to know and do, to increase your woodcarving skills and understanding. These are the w/e tutorials: find out more
  2. 'specific' classes, devoted to, and concentrating on a particlar subject.
Find out more at the link by the particular class, or here.

Depending on the mix of students, we may be dealing with lettering or relief carving, sharpening or carving in the round, or a carved element from your furniture project, such as a fan or mouldings.

If you don't have tools it doesn't matter, I can provide whatever you need.
I'd like you to bring as much of your own kit as possible so that we can deal with the essential skills such as sharpening or handling tools, and you can take the results with you!

Email me any time to have a preliminary chat about what you might like to do.

Class Size:
Classes have a minimum size of 2 students, and a maximum of 4.

This small class size ensures a balance between maximum teaching and shared input from fellow carvers.
Before you come to a class, I'd like to 'talk' to you and find out how I can help you best - what you would want to achieve from working together.
This helps me prepare and give you the most of our opportunity.

You can email me here any time.

Times:
Classes normally run from about 9am - 5pm with an hour break for lunch (provided) and an (optional) stroll in the beautiful countryside to gather wits, thoughts, flowers - whatever.

You are welcome to continue using the workshop facilities for your own practice after the class has ended, or even the following morning before work has started.

Facilities & Accommodation:
The woodcarving workshop where you will be learning is comfortable and fully equipped, with plenty of tools and bits to play with. I use it myself! It is very likely you will see my own work in progress.

If you turn to this page, I have put up photographs of the workshop, the immediate area, and accommodation.
Accommodation is readily available locally, and occasionally with us.

Cost
Students pay £150 per day or the equivalent in other currency.
This cost includes a light lunch; coffee, tea and refreshments; basic materials, use of all woodcarving tools and equipment.
A deposit of 50% will be required to book a place in a woodcarving course. The deposit will only be refundable, if the course runs, and if the place can be filled by another student.

Booking:
Is very easy:

Email me first: to say hello and tell me what class you are interested in, what you'd like to do or learn.

We will look at how you can make the most of your time; and, if you decide you want to go ahead, I will tell you how to pay the deposit to secure a place.

Future and Additional Dates:
I will be putting these and other details of my woodcarving classes in the free website newsletter, and the woodcarving journal: Slipstones as soon as I have them available.

If these dates don't fit your visit to the UK, it may be possible to custom-make a class to suit. Email me or use the 'Connect' form, and tell me what you have in mind.

Look forward to seeing you!
